Middle Tennessee women's tennis resumes action against this weekend with matches against Tennessee State and Louisiana Tech. The Blue Raiders host the Tigers in a 2 p.m. contest at Nashboro Village on Friday, while playing the Lady Techsters at Noon on Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.
The Raiders (4-2) are coming off a tough 5-2 loss to Chattanooga last Saturday. Junior Tiffany William carries her perfect 6-0 singles record into the weekend. Nayara Moraes boasts a 5-1 record at the No. 2 position. In doubles action, the tandem of Moraes and Irina Constantinide have went 4-1 in the early portion of the season.
"We have had a good week of practice and are looking forward to both our matches this weekend," said head coach Shelley Godwin. "We have put an emphasis on coming out stronger in doubles, so this will be a focus for us this weekend."
MT and TSU square off for the first time in 14 years. The Blue Raiders own a 14-0 advantage and have 12 shutouts during the all-time series. Friday's match is the season-opener with TSU. In 2013, the Tigers went 2-11 overall and 0-9 in Ohio Valley Conference action.
For the fourth time in school history and the first time since 1992, Middle Tennessee and Louisiana Tech will meet. The Blue Raiders have won the three previous meetings against their new conference foe. LA Tech (6-1) has won six consecutive matches and is coming off 4-3 victory at McNeese State. Jasmin Britos leads the Lady Techsters with a 5-0 record at the No. 3 spot, while Alexandra Starkova follows at 4-1 at the No. 1 position.
