Tennessee State drops Middle Tennessee 7-1

MT finishes play Saturday against Georgia Southern at 4:30 p.m.

STATESBORO, Ga. - Middle Tennessee (5-14) lost its second game of the Eagle Classic 7-1 to instate rival Tennessee State(5-13) Saturday.

Senior Jordyn Fisherback earned her second loss in as many days, pitching the first 2.1 innings against the Tigers and surrendering four runs with three earned on six hits. Caitlin McClure came in relief of Fisherback, closing out the third inning but found herself in trouble in the fourth, forcing MT to call on Stinnett for the final 3.0 innings. Stinnett allowed only two hits with one earned run against TSU to close out the first contest of the day.

Two batters into the game, Middle Tennessee held the 1-0 advantage but it was the only offense they mustered in the seven inning affair. LaRi Mitchell started the game with a walk and stole second, her 11th of the season. Kayla Toney proceeded to hit a single to center, scoring Mitchell from second.

Fisherback held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom of the first but the next four innings produced runs for Tennessee State. TSU scored two runs in back-to-back-to-back innings for a commanding 6-1 lead heading into the fifth inning. Middle Tennessee went down 1-2-3 in the top of the sixth and Tennessee State scored one more in the bottom half.

Toney finished 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI and was the only Blue Raider to tally multiple hits. Marinna Shadley finished 1-for-3 and recorded the only other hit for Middle Tennessee.

Tennessee State's Shea Morris pitched a complete game, striking out four with three walks.

Middle Tennessee continues play against host Georgia Southern at 4:30 p.m.
