Rutto wins 800-meter, Tugumisrize 400-meter at C-USA

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Six Blue Raiders reached the podium in the final day of the Conference USA Indoor Track & Field Championships, with Eliud Rutto and Emmanuel Tugumisirize each winning individual C-USA Championships.
The Middle Tennessee men's squad finished fourth with a total of 68 points while the women's team placed 10th with 37 points.
Tugumisirize placed first in the 400-meter, running the race in 46.80 and added a eight place finish in the 200-meter for a new personal-best time of 21.97 seconds. Rutto become the second C-USA Individual Champion after winning the 800-meter (1:51.00) and placed third in the mile to start the day (4:07.93).
Three more men's athletes placed in the top three with Junior Cadet setting a new personal-best time of 8.02 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles for second place. Freshman Tahir Walsh also set a career-best time in the 200-meter (21.48), while finishing third. Cordario Golden was the lone field athlete to make a top three mark, hitting a new personal distance of 16.02-meters for second.
India Hammond ended the day with two top-eight finishes, placing fourth in the triple jump (12.55-meters) and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.55 seconds).
