Raiders open spring play at the Hurricane Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team opens the 2014 spring slate March 3-5 at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Fla., hosted by Miami at the Biltmore Golf Course.

The three-day tournament will take place at the par-71, 6,092-yard course at the Biltmore just a few miles from the University of Miami campus. The first two rounds on Monday and Tuesday will begin with a shotgun start off No. 1 and No. 10 at 7:30 a.m. The final round of play on Wednesday will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. The event will consist of 17 teams, including three teams ranked in the top 30.

Five Blue Raiders will compete in the Hurricane Invitational as Avery George leads the group. She posted a stroke average of 74.8 during the fall season, recording three rounds under par and posting five top-10 finishes including a victory at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate.

George will be joined by Emily Williams, Allie Knight, Emily Miller and Madison Denton. Williams finished the fall season with a stroke average of 76.8, recording a low round score of 73. Knight posted a 76.9 stroke average with a low round score of 73 in the fall, while Miller had a stroke average of 77.1 and also carded a low round of 73. Denton competed in just one event during the fall, carding a 229 at the Blue Raider Invitational for a stroke average of 80.3.
