Blue Raiders host Mean Green in first C-USA Matchup

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee softball team (5-17) hosts former Sun Belt foe North Texas (13-5) in its first matchup as members of Conference USA March 8-9 for a three-game home stand.
The Blue Raiders are fresh off a winless Eagle Classic tournament, which was hosted by Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Ga. Feb. 28-March 1 MT dropped two games against Troy and Tennessee State, and one to host Georgia Southern.
Kayla Toney finished the tournament as the offensively leader, hitting 8-for-14 with a team-high five RBI and three doubles. She tallied back-to-back-to-back multiple hit games against Tennessee State (2-for-3) March 1, Georgia Southern (2-for-3) March 1 and Troy (2-for-3) March 2.
LaRi Mitchell registered six stolen bases at the classic and now has a team-high 14. Mitchell needs five more stolen bases to tie for 10th on the Middle Tennessee season record stolen base list with 19.
North Texas boasts a 13-5 overall record and has a 1-2 road record in 2014. The Mean Green have posted a 11-game win streak in the heart of their schedule, starting against Winthrop Feb. 8 and lasting until Feb. 23 against Texas State. Wichita State broke NT's winning streak March 1st in a 5-4 victory.
Danielle Hoff, Brooke Foster and Jennifer Beardsley each have tallied a .400 batting average or better, with Hoff leading the way with her .418 average (23-for-55) and 23 RBI. Foster has a team-best 25 hits with four home runs and was named C-USA Hitter of the Week Feb. 17.
Ashley Kirk pitched March 3 against Houston, helping the Mean Green to a 6-1 defeat of the Cougars. Kirk pitched a complete game, her sixth of the season and has a team-best 8-2 record with 91 strikeouts. She also boasts a sub-2.00 ERA (1.95) while pitching 64.2 innings in 2014. Lauren Poole and Madison Thompson each have recorded two wins, while Poole is second on the team with a 2.68 ERA.
