MT at Georgia Tech for Yellow Jacket Invitational

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee track & field teams travel to Atlanta to compete in the Yellow Jacket Invitational March 28-29, hosted by Georgia Tech at the George C. Griffin Track & Field Facility.
The Blue Raiders embark on their second meet of the 2014 outdoor slate after previously competing at the Alabama Relays in Tuscaloosa, Ala., March 22-23. Ten men's and women's teams are competing in Atlanta, which include Alabama, Auburn, Chattanooga, Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Ohio State and Syracuse. Columbus State, GRU Augusta and Albany State will travel their men's teams only.
The Yellow Jacket Invite features 38 events over two days with Middle Tennessee athletes competing in nearly every event. India Hammond looks to continue her success from last weekend's meet, where she finished first in the triple jump, sixth in the 100-meter hurdles and eighth in the long jump. Hammond is scheduled to compete in the triple jump and long jump in Atlanta.
Cordairo Golden will contend in the men's long jump and triple jump for the first time this outdoor season. Golden earned first team All-American honors after placing eighth with a distance of 15.80-meters in the triple jump at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 15.
Pershawna Williams placed third in the high jump after clearing 1.70-meters and freshman Barbara Vilson finished fifth after clearing 1.65-meters in Alabama. Both are scheduled to compete in the high jump this weekend.
Shadrack Matelong will run his first 3,000-meter steeplechase this season. He set his personal-best time (9:13.46) in the event at the 2013 Sun Belt Championships May 12. Matelong competed in the 5,000-meter in Tuscaloosa, finishing fourth with a time of 14:42.69. Tressanique Hampton set a personal-best in the 800-meter last weekend (2:12.49) and will run in the 1,500-meter at the Yellow Jacket Invite.
Lucy Kapkiai and Jackline Kiprono will represent MT at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C., March 28. Kapkiai will run in the 10,000-meter, while Kiprono will race in the 5,000-meter run. Kapkiai owns the Middle Tennessee outdoor school record in both the 5K (16:48.41) and 10K (35:47.01).
