Blue Raiders trek to Charlotte

MT and Charlotte are tied in C-USA Standings

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee (7-26, 2-7 C-USA) continues its five-game road swing with a three-game series March 29-30 against the Charlotte 49ers (10-15, 2-7 C-USA) in Charlotte, N.C.

Middle Tennessee played its first of five road games March 26 at Jacksonville State, losing to the Gamecocks 4-2. The midweek clash featured a close contest through the first three innings with JSU scoring first and then MT responding in the second inning for a 1-1 game. In the fourth inning, MT surrendered a two-run home run and a double to Jacksonville State, who took the commanding 4-1 lead. MT added another run on a LaRi Mitchell sacrifice fly to center in the seventh.

In MT's last five games, the Blue Raiders are hitting at a .264 clip, which is slightly higher than the season average of .256. Laura Dukes has a team-best .818 batting average through the five-game stretch, while totaling nine hits with four doubles. Dukes leads on the season MT with a .398 average and 13 doubles, while being tied with Kayla Toney for a team-high 35 hits. Toney boasts 24 RBI and six home runs, which are both team-highs.

Charlotte recently played No. 17 Tulsa March 22-23, losing all three games by a combined score of 26-1 and host the Blue Raiders with a 1-4 record in its last five games.

Samantha Slade leads Charlotte with a .377 batting average and seven home runs. Slade is tied with Natalie Capone for a team-best 29 hits. Jessica Plemmons has notched 22 RBI with a .329 average with five home runs. Seven players, including Slade, Capone and Plemmons, boast a .300 average or higher.

Lexi Betancourt has a 9-8 record and has started 15 games with 19 total appearances. Betancourt has tallied 111.2 innings pitched with 116 strikeouts for a 2.51 ERA. Mackenzie Hauser is second on the team with a 1-3 record with six starts. She has allowed an opposing batting average of .449 through her 11 appearances.

Middle Tennessee and Charlotte are scheduled to play a doubleheader Saturday with the first game to starting at 11 a.m. (CT). The series will conclude Sunday with a single game at 11 a.m (CT). Updates are available by following @MT_Softball on Twitter.
