RALEIGH, N.C. - Jackline Kiprono and Lucy Kapkiai started this weekend's track & field action at the Raleigh Relays, running the 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter, respectively.

Lucy Kapkiai helped set the pace for the Blue Raiders this weekend, breaking her own school record in the 10,000 with a time of 35:04.76, while placing fifth. Kapkiai previously set the school record at the Sea Ray Relays April 13, 2013, notching a time of 35:47.01.

"Great start to the season," said Middle Tennessee Assistant Coach Keith Vroman. "With it only being the second week of the season Lucy did a great job and stayed in contact. She was on pace to run 35 minutes and beat last year's time by nearly 40 seconds. It was great for her first long distance race of the season."

Jackline Kiprono ran in the women's 5,000, placing 17th overall with a personal-best time of 17:15.64. Kiprono's previous-best time of 17:44.43 was set at the Vanderbilt Invitational April 20, 2013.

"It was 30 seconds faster than what she ran last year and under rainy conditions," Vroman said. "They both did what we came here to do, run personal bests."

The remaining Blue Raiders continues this weekend's action tomorrow in Atlanta at the Yellow Jacket Invitational. Field events are scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m. with the shot put and running events will start at 12:30 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
