Women's golf opens play in Peach State Sunday

Raiders fine-tune before C-USA Championship

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Fresh off a win at the UALR Classic, the Middle Tennessee women's golf team travels to the Peach State March 30-April 1 for the 21st John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate hosted by Georgia State in Stockbridge, Ga.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at Eagle's Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Ga., and will be the final tournament for the Blue Raiders before traveling to the Conference USA Championship 21-23. The 2014 edition of the event features a 16-team field, including seven teams ranked in the Golfweek top-100.

The field includes tournament host Georgia State, UALR, Campbell, Elon, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Mercer, Middle Tennessee, Montana, fellow C-USA member Old Dominion, Rollins College, South Alabama, South Dakota, South Dakota State, Troy and UAB. Georgia will also have players competing as individuals at the event.

The Blue Raiders are fresh off of a nine-stroke victory at the ULAR Classic last week. MT posted a score of 921 (306-311-304) at the 6,076-yard, par-72 Diamante Country Club course.

Reigning C-USA Golfer of the Week, Avery George will return to action this weekend for the Blue Raiders at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate. She paced Middle Tennessee at the UALR Classic, carding a 224 to finish third in the overall player field.

MT junior Allie Knight will also be in the lineup, after finishing second on the team last weekend with a score of 226 for fourth place. Sophomores Emily Williams and Maddie Denton are also slated to compete in Georgia this weekend.

Junior Haley Cothran is schedule to compete in her first tournament this season for the Blue Raiders this weekend, rounding out the five-player lineup for the team. Freshman Lacie York will compete as an individual for MT at the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate.

The three-day event will begin Sunday with teams starting at the first and 10th tees at 8 a.m. EST. The second round be Monday with tee times still to be determined, while the final round of play will be Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. EST.
