MT knocks off South Alabama, 4-1

Raiders win Middle Tennessee Shootout

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee men's tennis team defeated South Alabama, 4-1, to win the 2014 Middle Tennessee Shootout on Sunday afternoon at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center. With the win, the Blue Raiders move to 8-11 on the spring.

Middle Tennessee opened the match by taking the doubles point, capturing the two completed matches by 8-0 margins. Juniors Victor Hoang and Ettore Zito began play with an 8-0 win at No. 3, followed by the 57th-ranked sophomore tandem of Victor Cornea and David Fox taking No. 1.

The Blue Raiders captured the final three points in singles play with a trio of straight-set victories. Hoang at No. 4 (6-2, 6-2) and junior Yannick Born at No. 6 (6-4, 6-0) were victorious, setting up Cornea to close out the match with a win at No. 3 (6-3, 6-4).

The Blue Raiders return to action next weekend with a pair of matches in Idaho, facing Boise State on Saturday, April 5 and Utah State on Sunday, April 6.
