STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. - The Middle Tennessee women's golf team jumped from eighth place to fourth after the second round of play at the 21st annual John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate Monday behind a career-best round from sophomore Emily Williams at the par-72 Eagle's Landing Country Club.

The Blue Raiders posted a second round score of 289, tying the team's low round score this season. MT carded a 289 in the second round of play at the Lady Pirate Intercollegiate Oct. 7. Middle Tennessee is fourth on the 16-team leaderboard, shooting a 601 through 36 holes at the Georgia State hosted tournament.

"We left it all out there, but the leaders didn't budge at all, so we still have some work to do tomorrow," said MT head coach Chris Adams. "Conditions were absolutely perfect as the top team's score showed. We are going to have to have confidence that we can put up some more low scores tomorrow to move up the leaderboard."

Williams carded a career-best 67 in the second round at the John Kirk Intercollegiate. Her 67 ties for the lowest round of the tournament alongside Campbell's Kaylin Yost, who leads the 90-player field. Williams leads the Blue Raiders, shooting a 147 to sit tied for ninth overall.

"Emily Williams played great; she had seven birdies total and bogeyed hole 15 and 16, but finished birdie-birdie on the last two holes to tie the low round of the day and her career low," Adams said. "Emily was throwing darts at the pins today, fun to see her get some confidence back."

MT junior Allie Knight turned in the second-best score for the Raiders on the day, recording a 73. She is tied for 19th in the tournament, tallying a 150 through two rounds of play. Sophomore Avery George shaved five strokes off her first round score to shoot a 74 Monday for Middle Tennessee. She is tied for 25th with an overall score of 153.

Blue Raider sophomore Maddie Denton recorded another 75 in the second round of competition. She is second on the team with a score of 150 through 36 holes and is tied for 16th in the overall field. MT junior Haley Cothran carded a 90 in the second round for a total of 178.

The three-day event concludes Tuesday with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. EST. Live score can be found at GolfStat.com.
