MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee soccer team and head coach Aston Rhoden announced the signing of Josephine Waitrovich and Sally Gill to National Letters of Intent, joining five other signees to the 2014 Blue Raider recruiting class.
Goalkeeper / 5-10 / Waupaca, Wis.
Waitrovich has been on the Academic Honor Roll eight semesters at Waupaca High School, where she's a three-sport athlete. She's played volleyball, basketball and soccer for four years, earning two letters in both basketball and volleyball and four letters in soccer. Waitrovich is a two-time MVP award-winner for her volleyball team and a two-time Defensive Player of the Year on her basketball squad, while also earning leadership and coach's honors for both teams.
On the soccer field, the 5-10 keeper was named to the All-Conference Third Team in 2012. She followed that in 2013 with unanimous First Team All-Conference honors. Waitrovich is a two-time Defensive Player of the Year recipient at Waupaca, while also garnering leadership and MVP accolades. During her sophomore campaign, she ranked third in the state with a GAA of .780, while ranking third as a junior with 181 total saves. Last season, she allowed just 24 goals in 19 games and 1,408 minutes of action. Waitrovich boasted a .833 save percentage and a 1.36 GAA. In her high school career, she has collected 894 saves with a GAA of 1.09.
At the club level, Waitrovich played with the Central FC Select Strikers out of Stevens Point, Wis., in 2013 and 2014 under head coach Jamie Brzezinski. The Waupaca, Wis., native led Central FC to a first-place finish at the College Showcase. She helped her club team win the Sentury Classic, while claiming second at the Ice Age Classic. Waitrovich helped Central FC earn fourth-place honors at the Region 2 President's Cup.
"Josee (Waitrovich) is a very strong and fundamentally sound keeper," Rhoden said. "She has great footwork and very safe hands. She will be a great addition to the keeper position for us and I can hardly wait to see how she develops and competes."
Midfielder/ 5-7 / Thornbury, Bristol, England
Gill graduated from the Castle School in Thornbury, Bristol in June of 2012, before attending South Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS). She lettered in soccer at SGS, leading her team to the 2012-13 National College Cup finals. She was voted Player of the Year by her teammates for the SGS Under-19 team during the 2012-13 season. Gill was appointed SGS team captain for the 2013-14 season. She is a FA Level 1 qualified coach.
The midfielder played club soccer for the Thornbury Falcons U10 from 2004-06, before joining the Bristol Academy Centre of Excellence from 2006-12. Since 2012, Gill has been with the Bristol Academy WFC development squad. She was named the managers' Player of the Year for Bristol Academy U16 in 2010-11, helping her team reach the England Schools Women's Football Association tournament that season. She led Bristol Academy to the England College Women's Football Association tournament in 2013-14. Gill has spent her club career playing under Mark Sampson and Lee Rendall.
Gill has represented her country in a fixture played in Glasgow against Scotland Schools. Following her English Schools experience, she participated in trials for the England Colleges FA team. Gill was selected for the team and played games against Australia, Wales and her home club, Bristol Academy. These contests were friendlies, which will finish in a tour of Estonia and Latvia in May 2014.
"Sally (Gill) will be a great addition to our midfield," Rhoden said. "She has great endurance, is technically sound and reads the game very well. Her vision will help us create many scoring opportunities and her experience at the international level will help to balance that of our young team."
