Rutto, Tugumisirize highlight final day at Tiger Track Classic

Ten Blue Raiders finish in the top five

AUBURN, Ala. - The Middle Tennessee track & field teams concluded the final day at the Tiger Track Classic with 10 top five finishes Saturday.

The men's squad was highlighted by the first place finishes of Eliud Rutto and Emmanuel Tugumisirize. Rutto won the 1,500-meter invite with a time of 3:44.82, while Tugumisirize captured the 400-meter title (46.21). Rutto cut four second off his previous-best time of 3:50.94, which he set at the Alabama Relays March 22, 2014.

Junior Cadet placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (14.22 seconds) and stepped in to help the men's 4x400-meter relay team of Andre Hamilton, Steven Palmer and Tugumisrize finish second (3:07.44). The 4x100-meter relay squad of Demetrius Shelton, Tahir Walsh, Steven Palmer and Cadet also added a fifth place finish (41.40). Cadet's time in the hurdles eclipsed his previous personal-best time of 14.73, which he set at the Yellow Jacket Invitational March 31, 2012.

Cordario Golden continued his success from the first day of the Tiger Track Classic, adding a fifth place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.09-meters, while Shadrack Matelong netted a second place finish in the 1,500-meter run (4:00.38).

For the women's team, the 4x100-meter team of Christal Wilson, Sheniece Daphness, Crystal Gray and India Hammond placed fourth (46.67).

Tressanique Hampton finished fifth in the 800-meter (2:11.71), while Shaina Johnson added a fifth place finish in the 400-meter (55.43). Hampton and Johnson each achieved personal-best times in their respective events Saturday. Barbara Vilson was the only women's field athlete to make the top five, clearing 1.70-meters in the high jump and setting a personal-best height.

Middle Tennessee continues competition at two different meets next weekend with part of the team competing at the Tennessee Relays April 10-12 and the remaining athletes at the Boston-Moon Relays April 11.
