MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Three pitchers combined for the Middle Tennessee baseball team's first shutout of 2014 in a 4-0 win over Belmont Tuesday night at Reese Smith, Jr. Field. In the win, the Blue Raiders improve to 15-17, while the Bruins fall to 13-19.

Junior Kooper Kessler, senior Jonathan Sisco and senior Cody Tollison teamed up to hold Belmont to seven hits in the contest, while junior Jared Allen provided the bulk of the offense with a two-run homer and RBI fielder's choice.

Allen got the offense started in the first inning with a towering two-run homer to left field, scoring senior Trent Miller to give the Blue Raiders a 2-0 lead. The Blue Raiders added to the lead an inning later when junior Michael Adkins scored on a wild pitch.

Middle Tennessee tacked on a fourth run in the third inning for the final 4-0 advantage. Senior Hank LaRue led off the inning with a single, going first to third on a Miller single. Allen would ground into a fielder's choice, plating LaRue for the game's final tally.

Kessler pitched four scoreless innings for the victory, holding Belmont to four hits. Sisco pitched the fifth, sixth, and seventh, allowing two hits. Tollison surrendered just one hit over the final two innings. Belmont's Chase Cunningham was saddled with the loss, allowing all four runs.

The Blue Raiders return to action Wednesday with a 6 p.m. first pitch at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn. Freshman Caleb Smith will make his first career start in the contest.
