CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - A five-run second inning and a three-run sixth inning, doomed Middle Tennessee (7-33) in an 8-0 six-inning loss to in-state foe Austin Peay (18-21) Wednesday at Cheryl Holt Field.

Middle Tennessee tallied four hits Wednesday with LaRi Mitchell (1-for-3), Kayla Toney (1-for-3), Nina Dever (1-for-3) and Austyn Whaley each recording a hit (1-for-2). Jordyn Fisherback (3-12) started the contest in the circle for MT against the Lady Govs. She allowed five runs through one and one-third innings pitched.

Senior Shelby Stinnett pitched the bulk of the innings, throwing three and two-thirds innings with one earned run. Caitlin McClure tossed the final one-third inning, giving up two game-ending runs.

The Blue Raiders had their best chance to score in the fifth inning. After an opening ground out, Whaley hit a single up the middle and was out one batter later on a fielder's choice off the bat of Marinna Shadley. Shadley advanced to second on a passed ball and MT had runners on first and second, following a walk to McKena Miller. Mitchell notched her lone hit back to the pitcher, loading the bases, but MT was retired on the next at bat.

Middle Tennessee will continue play April 12-13 in El Paso, Texas with a three-game Conference USA series against UTEP.
