April 13, 2014 · @MTAthletics

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - A shorthanded Middle Tennessee men's tennis team outlasted No. 60 UCF, with junior Victor Hoang capturing a victory at No. 2 singles to win the match 4-3 on Sunday at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center. In the win, the Blue Raiders finish the regular season at 10-13, while the Knights fall to 12-8.

Middle Tennessee took the doubles point by winning the first two matches, with Hoang and junior Ettore Zito winning 8-5 at No. 2, while junior Yannick Born and freshman Aaron Jumonville took an 8-7 victory at No. 1.

The Blue Raiders lost No. 6 singles by default, as MT was without two players due to injuries. The Raiders responded though, with Zito taking a dominant win (6-1, 6-1) at No. 1 before Born evened the match at 3-3 with a win at No. 4 (6-3, 7-6). In the deciding showdown, Hoang won at No. 2 (6-2, 2-6, 6-4) to win it for the Blue Raiders.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action Thursday at the Conference USA Championship in Tulsa, Okla. The time and opponent for Thursday's match will be announced this week.
