Raiders take on FAU in First Round of C-USA Championship

IRVING, Texas - Middle Tennessee women's tennis earned the No. 9 seed and will play No. 16 seed Florida Atlantic on Wednesday, April 16 at 1 p.m. CT in the programs' first Conference USA Championship. The five-day event will be held at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va.
The Blue Raiders completed the regular season 10-9 overall with a 3-1 record against C-USA competition. Earlier this year, MT defeated the Owls 5-2 in Boca Raton. FAU (10-10, 0-3 C-USA) has won three out of its last four matches. The winner of Wednesday's first round matchup will play No. 8 seed UTSA at 1 p.m. CT on Thursday.
The No. 20 Tulsa women's tennis team earned the top seed and a bye into the quarterfinals of the 2014 C-USA Women's Tennis Championship. No. 2-seed Rice, No. 3-seed North Texas and No. 4-seed Marshall also earned quarterfinal byes. The trio enter championship week ranked No. 21, No. 67 and No. 72, respectively, in the April 8 ITA rankings.
Championship action begins with two matches at 9 a.m. CT Wednesday, as No. 15-seed Tulane faces No. 10-seed East Carolina and No. 14-seed Charlotte takes on No. 11-seed Southern Miss. On Thursday, No. 7 Old Dominion will meet the winner of the Tulane-ECU match and No. 6 FIU will face the Charlotte-USM victor. The Thursday matches will also take place at 9 a.m. CT.
The Wednesday afternoon matches will pit No. 16 Florida Atlantic against No. 9 Middle Tennessee and No. 13 UTEP against No. 12 UAB. The FAU-MT winner will meet No. 8-seed UTSA on Thursday at 1 p.m., while the UTEP-UAB winner will draw No. 5 Louisiana Tech at the same time on Thursday.
The top four seeds will begin play on Friday at 9 a.m. with No. 2 Rice taking on the winner of the ODU-Tulane/ECU match and No. 3 North Texas meeting the FIU-Charlotte/USM winner. At 1 p.m. on Friday, No. 1 Tulsa will face the UTSA-FAU/MT winner and No. 4 Marshall meets the Louisiana Tech-UTEP/UAB winner.
