IRVING, Texas - A late-season push by the Middle Tennessee men's tennis team contributed to a first-round bye for the Blue Raiders, who will begin the 2014 Conference USA Championship against Rice on Friday afternoon at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.

The Blue Raiders earned the No. 4 seed in the tournament, and will play No. 5 Rice on Friday at 2 p.m. The host Golden Hurricane earned the top seed out of the 11 participating C-USA member institutions. Semifinals will be played Saturday, with the championship match Sunday at 11 a.m.

"I am looking forward to our first C-USA Championship," said head men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame. "The Tulsa facility is amazing and one of the best in the country. The competition will be tough, but our schedule is one of the toughest, if not the toughest in the league. One of our major goals is to win the league. We are back to full strength, and we should be a factor in the tournament, but it starts with focusing on our first-round matchup with Rice and taking it one match at a time."
