MT starts eight-game road swing at Chattanooga

Blue Raiders play Lady Mocs April 18-19

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -The Middle Tennessee softball team (7-37) starts an eight-game road swing with a two-game set April 18-19 against instate foe Chattanooga (24-17) at Jim Frost Stadium. The Blue Raiders and Lady Mocs play their first game Friday at 5 p.m. (EST)/4 p.m. (CST) and conclude the series Saturday with a noon (EST)/11 a.m. (CST) contest.

MT played host to future Conference USA foe WKU April 16, losing 4-2 to the Hilltoppers after allowing two runs in the eighth inning. The Blue Raiders will not play at home again until the final C-USA series against Florida Atlantic May 3-4.

In Wednesday's contest, Middle Tennessee outhit WKU 8-7, but untimely walks and errors allowed the Hilltoppers to take the single contest. Laura Dukes finished the game 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Nina Dever also added a 2-for-4 performance.

Shelby Stinnett earned the start for the Blue Raiders, tossing five innings with a career-high five strikeouts. Stinnett surrendered only two hits through four innings, holding WKU scoreless until the fifth. Jordyn Fisherback tossed the last three innings and allowed three runs with two earned for the loss.

Chattanooga comes into this weekend's contests 24-17 overall and second in the Southern Conference with a 9-5 record. In its last five games, UTC is 2-3 and lost last weekend's series to Samford 1-2 April 12-13.

Through 41 games played, the Lady Mocs boast a 1.84 ERA and are led by the tandem of Taylor Deason and Katie Henderson. Deason has a 1.22 ERA with an 11-7 record and has four complete games with 115 innings pitched and 94 strikeouts. Henderson has a slightly higher ERA, coming in a 1.89 ERA with a 12-8 record. Henderson has a team-high 122 innings pitched, 119 strikeouts and 11 complete games.

At the plate, Anyssa Robles has a team-high 41 hits for a .357 batting average and is second on the team with 27 RBI. Criket Blanco leads the team with 29 RBI, while Sara Beth Roberts has tallied 22 RBI and a .320 batting average.
