Raiders fall 4-1 to Rice in C-USA quarterfinals

Born with singles win in final match of season

TULSA, Okla. - The 2014 spring season ended for the Middle Tennessee men's tennis team on Friday afternoon, falling 4-1 to Rice in the Conference USA Championship quarterfinals at Case Tennis Center. In the defeat, the Blue Raiders finish the spring at 10-14, while Rice improves to 10-12.

The fourth-seeded Raiders tallied their lone point from junior Yannick Born at No. 6 singles, who defeated fifth-seeded Rice's Zachary Yablon (6-1, 7-6 (7-5)). Freshman Sam Matheson was leading at No. 5 (3-6, 7-5, 5-2) when his match was stopped after the Owls clinched.

Junior Ettore Zito, whose match went unfinished Friday, led the Blue Raiders with 13 singles wins this spring, including 10 from the No. 1 spot. Junior Victor Hoang was second on the team with 11 in his first year in Murfreesboro.
