Lady Raider Softball Pins Shutouts on Motlow State

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee softball shutout visiting Motlow State 8-0 and 10-0 on Tuesday, in the Lady Raiders final tune-up before beginning their regular begins on Friday at the Mardi Gras Classic.

In the first game, which only went five innings, senior hurler Jennifer Martinez fanned 14 batters and only allowed two hits. Senior catcher Lindsay Azevedo had a single, a double, and two RBI, and shortstop Steffi Silva knocked two singles and also had two RBI .

The second game, which was also called after five innings, showcased the Lady Raiders two remaining pitchers in the rotation. Junior Stayc Preater went three innings and struck out five, while senior Amanda Kendall closed the game and notched six strikeouts.

Rookie players for the Lady Raiders also got a chance to play in the second game. Freshman catcher Leah Grothause pounded out two singles and an RBI, fellow freshman Danielle DeCamino had an RBI, and junior college transfer Megan Cherinka had a single and an RBI.

The season officially starts for the Lady Raiders when the team travels to Monroe, Louisiana to play in the Mardi Gras Classic. Middle Tennessee opens the tournament with a 3 p.m. face-off with Troy State on Friday.
