Blue Raiders set to face tough competition

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee track & field teams trek to two different meets April 24-26 with members of both the men's and women's squad competing at the Penn Relays April 24-26 and the Coach O Invitational April 25-26.

MT will be well represented at both meets with the men's 4x200-meter relay and 4x400-meter relay teams competing at Penn. Joining the relay teams are India Hammond and Lucy Kapkiai. Hammond is slated to compete in the long jump Thursday and the triple jump Friday, while Kapkiai is scheduled to run in the 5,000-meter for the first time in the 2014 outdoor season.

The men's 4x200 team of Tahir Walsh, Demitrius Shelton, Andre Hamilton and Emmanuel Tugumisirize will run in the preliminaries Friday with hopes to qualify for the finals Saturday. The 4x400 team of Eliud Rutto, Hamilton, Steven Palmer, and Tugumisirize will also have to qualify Friday for Saturday's final.

The Coach O Invitational is a two-day meet with eight universities competing at the Jesse H. Colley Track Complex. Friday's events start with the hammer throw at 3 p.m. with MT's Kameron Rory being the only athlete slated for competition Friday in the men's long jump.

Rory is also scheduled to compete in the triple jump with teammates Craig Allen and Vincent Okot Saturday. Pershwana Williams and Atarah Abdullah-Muhammad will compete in the women's triple jump. Saturday's triple jump event will mark the first time Williams has completed in the event since setting her personal-best distance of 12.23-meters at the Tennessee Relays April 12.
