No. 15 Tulsa beats MT, 8-0 and 6-1

Series concludes Sunday at noon

TULSA, Okla.- No. 15 Tulsa (44-5, 17-2 C-USA) used its offensive power and strong pitching to beat Middle Tennessee (8-41, 2-17 C-USA), 8-0 and 6-1, Saturday at the Collins Family Softball Complex. MT and Tulsa conclude the three-game C-USA series tomorrow at noon.

In the doubleheader, Samantha Nieves was the lone Blue Raider to record multiple hits, finishing the second game 2-for-3.  Laura Dukes, Cheyenne Willis and Austyn Whaley each added a hit in the second contest, while helping the Blue Raiders score their only run of the day.

In the first contest of the afternoon, Middle Tennessee was held without a hit against five-time C-USA Pitcher of the Week Aimee Creger. Creger did allow five walks through five innings, including two to Marinna Shadley, who finished with three walks in the doubleheader.

Shelby Stinnett (3-15) tossed four and one-third innings against Tulsa, allowing eight earned runs with five strikeouts. Stinnett held the Golden Hurricanes to three runs through three innings before Tulsa notched five runs in the fifth.

Caitlin McClure (2-13) earned the start in the second game, tossing her fifth complete game of the season. McClure pitched six innings, while allowing four runs in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning.

MT scored its lone run in the two games in the seventh against Tulsa relief pitcher Caitlin Sill. Laura Dukes led off with a single and two batters later MT had runners on first and second. Whaley then singled to center field and Taylor Lee scored on a throwing error by the Tulsa left fielder.

LaRi Mitchell extended her reached-base streak to 17 games after a walk in the first contest before the streak ended after going 0-for-3 in the second game, while Whaley continued her streak to 17 games after a walk in the first game and a 1-for-3 performance in the second.
