EDMOND, Okla. - Junior Payne Denman paced the Middle Tennessee men's golf team through the first round of 18 holes at the Conference USA Championship Sunday as the Blue Raiders sit fourth at the par-70, 6,861-yard Oak Tree Country Club course.
Due to inclement weather in the area, tee times were pushed back four hours, with the first pairing teeing off at 11:42 a.m. Skies were clear during the round, but players faced winds up to 25 mph throughout competition.
Middle Tennessee is tied for fourth, carding 293 through 18 holes. Tulsa leads the way (288), while No. 18 UAB (290) sits second and Charlotte (291) is third. Rice is tied for fourth alongside MT, while North Texas follows with a score of 296.
Denman led the Raiders on the day, shooting 70 for par. He is tied for third on the 69-player leaderboard, while MT senior Lucas Armstrong is tied for 10th. Armstrong turned in a first round score of 72 for two-over par. Redshirt-junior Andrew Cho carded a 73 for the Blue Raiders for three-over par and is tied for 14th overall.
The C-USA Men's Golf Championship continues Monday with the second round of play teeing off at 8 a.m. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
