IRVING, Texas - Middle Tennessee junior Tiffany William was selected as the 2014 Conference USA Women's Tennis Newcomer of the Year, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

The London, England native became the first Blue Raider women's tennis player to earn conference accolades since Claudia Szabo and Hala Sufi were named All-Sun Belt in 2007. William was tabbed first team singles All-Conference and is the first Raider to win a Newcomer of the Year award. She joined the Blue Raiders in the fall of 2013 after spending two years at Auburn-Montgomery.

"I am so proud of Tiffany and think she is very deserving of this honor," said head coach Shelley Godwin. "She worked hard this year to transition into a new team and environment , while leading our team on the court."

This season, William produced a record of 18-4 (.818) in singles action as Middle Tennessee's top player. She collected the most singles victories in a season at MT since Pooja Kommireddi in 2006. The junior won nine consecutive matches dating from Jan. 25 until March 7. She was selected as the C-USA Athlete of the Week on Feb. 11 for a pair of wins over Austin Peay and Lipscomb.

William closed out the season winning nine out of her last 10 matches. She won all three singles matches in the C-USA Championship, including upsetting No. 116 ranked Yelena Nemchen of Tulsa. William and doubles partner Nayara Moraes picked up the doubles point-clinching victory over UTSA in the second round of the tournament.
