Zito, Fox, Cornea earn All-Conference USA honors

MT tied for second-most players named to All-C-USA teams

IRVING, Texas - Three Blue Raiders earned All-Conference USA men's tennis accolades for the 2014 season, as announced by the conference office Thursday.

Junior Ettore Zito was named first-team all-conference singles, sophomore David Fox was tabbed as second-team singles, while Fox and fellow sophomore Victor Cornea garnered a second-team doubles selection. The three Blue Raiders honored tied MT with Tulane for the second-most players to make All-Conference USA teams. Tulsa led all teams with four.

"These individuals had an outstanding season," said head men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame. I am proud of each one of them for their hard work and determination."

Zito went 13-6 on the spring, with 16 of those decisions coming at No. 1. The junior from Sicily knocked off four nationally-ranked foes in 2014 to eventually move himself up to No. 96 in the ITA rankings.

Fox was ranked as high as No. 84 in the ITA rankings this spring, The Englishman's top singles performance of the year came on Feb. 2 at South Carolina, when Fox knocked off No. 41 Tsvetan Mihov of the Gamecocks in straight sets.

As a doubles pair, Fox and Cornea climbed to as good as No. 22 in the ITA doubles rankings this spring. The sophomore duo anchored the Blue Raiders' doubles pairings in 2014, playing all matches at No. 1 while going 7-8.
