T&F to complete regular season at Tennessee Challenge

C-USA Championships May 15-18

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee track & field teams will conclude their regular season Saturday at the Tennessee Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn., at the Tom Black Track.

After Saturday, the Blue Raiders are slated to compete in the Conference USA Championships in Houston, Texas May 15-18. Following the championships, MT is scheduled to compete at the NCAA Regional in Jacksonville, Fla., May 29-31 before traveling to Eugene, Ore., for the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 11-14.

Of the many athletes competing in Knoxville, Eliud Rutto will not be among them. Rutto will travel to Stanford to compete in the 800-meter in the Payton Jordan Cardinal Invitational Sunday. His best time of the season in the 800 came at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, racing to a first-place finish with a time of 1:47.97, which is currently ranked No. 11 in the NCAA.

Emmanuel Tugumisirize highlights six Middle Tennessee male athletes that are scheduled to compete in the 400-meter. Tugumisirize posted the 12th fastest time (46.05) in the NCAA at the Tennessee Relays early this season. He also is slated to compete in the 200-meter.

On the women's side, Barbara Vilson is one of three athletes that will look to continue their improving performances in the high jump. Vilson cleared a career-best 1.74-meter in the high jump for first place at the Coach O Invitational April 26. Pershawna Williams is tied for fifth in the high jump in C-USA with her 1.75-meter performance at the Tennessee Relays.

India Hammond is scheduled to compete in the triple jump, long jump and the 100-meter hurdles. Hammond's triple jump of 12.83-meters is tied for 20th in the NCAA and third in C-USA. She also holds the best distance in C-USA in the long jump (6.15m).
