MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee head men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame has announced the signing of Paramaribo, Suriname native Gian Issa for the 2014-15 academic year.

Issa, the No. 1-ranked player in Suriname, has been ranked as high as No. 193 in the ITF rankings. He has won three ITF doubles and one ITF singles title, and has made five ITF singles semifinals along with three Grade 1 doubles quarterfinals. Issa has also been selected four times to the ITF South America team.

"Gian is another diamond in the rough with his best tennis in front of him," said Borendame. "He loves the game and is a very hard worker. I look forward to working with him and having him on our team."

"I am really proud and excited to be a part of this great tennis program," said Issa. "I look forward to competing and giving it all for Middle Tennessee."

Last week, Issa won four matches at the Vero Beach Future, qualifying for the main draw. Issa knocked off the No. 1 player in the event, along with an ATP-ranked opponent.
