MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee (10-44, 2-20 C-USA) lost to Florida Atlantic (32-21, 14-9 C-USA), 8-0 (5) and 5-3, in its last doubleheader of the season at the Blue Raider Softball Field Saturday. The Blue Raiders and Owls play a series-concluding game tomorrow at noon, which will be the final game of the MT season and feature a senior celebration prior to the start.

Through the two games, Laura Dukes led Middle Tennessee with three RBI and slapped her sixth home run of the season, while finishing 2-for-6. LaRi Mitchell added a 2-for-3 performance in the second game and was the only Blue Raider to tally a multiple-hit game.

In the first contest of the day, MT faced FAU's best pitcher, Samantha Messer, who tossed five innings of work, while allowing only three hits. The Owl attack was just as efficient, scoring two runs in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third and two in the fifth.

Shelby Stinnett started the contest and pitched the first two innings. She allowed six runs with five earned on eight hits and earned the loss. Caitlin McClure pitched in relief and completed the final three innings. McClure allowed two runs with no earned and notched three strikeouts.

In the second game, Dukes produced a three-run home run in the third inning. Her blast sailed over the right field fence and regained the momentum after FAU scored one run in the second. After a scoreless fourth, FAU took one run back in the fifth, but the Blue Raiders held the 3-2 advantage.

McClure pitched her last full inning of the day in the sixth and held the Owls scoreless. In the seventh, MT committed a costly error to allow the first runner of the inning. A single later and McClure was pulled in favor of Stinnett.

With runners on first and second, back-to-back ground balls reached Cheyenne Willis at shortstop for out one and two. A four-pitch walk in the next at bat loaded the bases for FAU. Florida Atlantic's Shelby Knox doubled and cleared the bases, which gave the Owls the 5-3 lead.
