PALO ALTO, Calif. - Eliud Rutto captured his third first-place finish of the outdoor season in the 800-meter at the Payton Jordan Invitational Sunday.

"He (Eliud Rutto) ran a great race and earned this accomplishment," said assistant coach Keith Vroman. "Now he needs to get ready for the Conference USA Championships in two weeks and then get prepared to continue his success at the NCAA Championships."

Rutto finished with a time of 1:45.37 and ranks second in the NCAA behind Mississippi State's Brandon McBride. McBride finished with a NCAA-leading time of 1:45.35 at the Mt. San Antonio College Relays April 17.

Rutto again broke the Middle Tennessee 800-meter school record, which he previously set in 2013 with a time of 1:47.97.

Middle Tennessee and Rutto will continue competition at the C-USA Outdoor Championships May 15-18 in Houston, Texas.
