MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee head men's tennis coach Jimmy Borendame and members of the Blue Raiders' SAAC team joined forces last Wednesday to put together a student-athlete dodgeball tournament at Alumni Memorial Gym.

The event, which had over 100 participants, was thought up by Borendame as a way to build camaraderie in the Middle Tennessee athletic department.

"I created this event to build a bond amongst the Middle Tennessee student-athletes," said Borendame. "The event was a great social mixer to build the relationships needed to be become a stronger Middle Tennessee family, and I hope it will encourage all of our teams to support each other and attend more home events throughout the year."

Blue Raider volleyball player Jazmyne Johnson was one of the student-athletes who helped organize the event. Johnson, like the other student-athletes and staff involved, hope to make the dodgeball tournament an annual tradition to grow Blue Raider spirit.

"The dodgeball tournament had a great turnout," Johnson said. "For the first year, a great number came out and supported the cause. I believe the event really pulled the athletes closer together as a family and will lead to us being more involved with each others' sports. I look forward to having the dodgeball tournament again next year."

The event, which those involved plan to make an annual tradition, featured student-athletes from over a dozen sports, bringing Blue Raiders from throughout the athletic department closer together, and was another way to celebrate a successful first year for Middle Tennessee in Conference USA.
