MT track & field concludes first two days at C-USA Outdoor Championships

Kapkiai leads MT with sixth-place finish in 10,000-meter run

HOUSTON - Middle Tennessee concluded the first two days of the Conference USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships, tallying four team points for the women's squad at the Holloway Field & Ley Track Friday.

Jessica Howell totaled 4413 points in the heptathlon to register the first team points of the championships for Middle Tennessee, scoring one point for the women's squad. Howell competed in the 100-meter hurdles (15.28 seconds), high jump (1.49-meters), shot put (9.27m), 200-meter dash (25.77), long jump (5.21m), javelin throw (26.90m) and the 800-meter (2:32.34). She placed highest in the 200 and 800, finishing seventh in each event, while also setting new personal-best distances in the high jump and javelin.

Lucy Kapkiai added three points to the women's totals after finishing sixth in the 10,000 with a time of 36:34.94 seconds.

Silas Taiget rounded out the Blue Raiders' efforts on Friday with a ninth-place finish in the 10,000 (32:09.70).

The C-USA Championships continue tomorrow with the women's long jump starting field events at 3 p.m. and the men's 1,500-meter preliminary run starting the track events at 5 p.m.

100-meter hurdles: 9. Jessica Howell - 15.28 seconds (-0.9), 805 points
High jump: 8. Jessica Howell - 1.49-meters, 610 points
Shot put: 11. Jessica Howell - 9.27-meters, 482 points
200-meter dash: 7. Jessica Howell - 25.77 seconds (1.1), 817 points
Long jump: 9. Jessica Howell - 5.21-meters (0.0), 617 points
Javelin throw: 8. Jessica Howell - 26.90-meters, 418 points
800-meter: 7. Jessica Howell - 2:32.34, 664 points
