MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee baseball team broke the game open early with a pair of big innings, en route to a 10-7 win over Marshall on Senior Day Saturday at Reese Smith, Jr. Field. In the win, the Blue Raiders move to 30-25 and 17-13 in Conference USA, while the Thundering Herd finish their season at 20-31 and 10-19 in C-USA.

With today's win, the Blue Raiders have clinched the No. 4 seed in the upcoming Conference USA Baseball Championship next week in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Middle Tennessee will play Old Dominion Wednesday at 9 a.m.

Junior left-hander Johnathan Frebis picked up his fourth win of the year after holding Marshall to two unearned runs on three hits over five innings. Senior Trent Miller had his team-high 23rd multiple-hit game of the year in the victory with three hits in the ballgame.

The Blue Raiders fired up the offense early and led 7-1 after three innings. Senior Ryan Stephens homered to lead off the second, and MT added to the lead on an RBI single by freshman Brad Jarreau and a sac fly by senior Hank LaRue to make it 3-0 through two innings.

After Marshall tallied a run in the top of the third, the Blue Raiders would use a four-run third to take control of the game. Following a strikeout for the first out of the inning, Marshall reliever Roscoe Blackburn walked the next three batters on 12 pitches. Junior Jake Ingold made him pay, driving a three-run triple to right-center for a 6-1 lead before a Jarreau sac fly made it 7-1.

With MT leading 7-3 in the sixth, Miller singled home a run to add to the lead. Marshall would bring it to within 8-5 before a single to right by junior Dustin Delgado and a subsequent LaRue double extended the advantage to 10-5. Marshall would tally two runs in the top of the eighth to bring it to within 10-7.

Junior right-hander Kooper Kessler tossed a perfect ninth for his third save of the year. Lance Elder was charged with the loss, giving up three runs over two innings.
