MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Senior runner Autumn Gipson was named to the Capital One Academic All-District III Women's Track & Field and Cross Country team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.
The Oak Ridge, Tennessee native boasts a 4.0 GPA in exercise science and was one of 11 selected to the district three team, which is comprised of athletes from North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Gipson was also named to the Conference USA Women's Track & Field All-Academic team May 28 and the C-USA Women's Cross Country All-Academic team in November 2013.
Gipson helped the Middle Tennessee cross country and track & field teams in distance events and was a consistent third runner for the Blue Raiders in the fall, placing as high as eighth on the two-mile course at the Front Runner Invitational in Chattanooga, Tennessee Oct. 19. During the indoor season she tallied three top-15 finishes, while in the outdoor session she added four top-10 finishes. At the C-USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, she finished 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:43.20.
The 2013-14 Capital One Academic All-District teams are selected by CoSIDA and are meant to recognize the achievements of student-athletes in the classroom and on the athletic fields. Gipson advances to the Capital One Academic All-America team ballot, which features the winners from each district.
