Blue Raiders close out NCAA Preliminary

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - On the final day of the NCAA East Preliminary round, Middle Tennessee faced tough competition and did not qualify any additional athletes for the NCAA Championship at Hodges Stadium Saturday.
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of Andre Hamilton, Steven Palmer, Demetrius Shelton and Emmanuel Tugumisirize finished 18th overall with a time of 3:09.26. LSU tallied the fastest time in the event (3:02.64), winning the second heat.
India Hammond and Pershawna Williams each competed in the triple jump with Hammond placing 18th overall with a jump of 12.74-meters. Williams failed to qualify for the NCAA Championships after fouling on her three attempts. Ciarra Brewer of Florida won the triple jump after leaping 13.49-meters.
Next up for Middle Tennessee is the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Oregon June 11-14. The trio of Eliud Rutto, Cordairo Golden and Tugumisirize will represent Middle Tennessee for the second-consecutive year.
