DUPONT, Wash. - Samantha Gotcher closed her time at the 38th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championships Wednesday, dropping the 19th hole on the first day of match play to one-seed Eun Jeong Seong at The Home Course.

"I am proud of the way I played and I did well all day but Seong made those two putts on the 18th and 19th hole," said Gotcher. "I can hang with them and hang with anybody. She (Seong) broke the record, shooting a 64 yesterday which has never been done at the Public Links Championship before. She is a very solid player and can drive the ball far."

Gotcher opened match play against Seong two up through three holes after hitting birdies on holes two and three. Each side went even on four and five before the Clarksville, Tennessee native registered a par on six, while Seong committed a bogey and conceded the hole. Gotcher notched another birdie on seven, going up four over the tournament leader through stroke play.

After two more holes, Seong came back to tie the match after winning the par-five 16. Gotcher went back up one on the 17th before Seong won the 18th and advanced to the round of 32 after winning the 19th hole of the day.
