Lady Raiders Fall to Bama as Kruse and Varnell Pick Up Top 25 Ranking
February 22, 2002 · MT Media RelationsThe Lady Raiders won the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches, but was swept by the Tide in singles action. Manon Kruse and Stacy Varnell won at No. 1 doubles 9-7 and the Lady Raiders picked up their second doubles win when Jennifer Klaschka and Verena Preiss won 8-4.
Middle Tennessee men's and women's tennis players got a boost in the rankings as the first regular season singles and doubles Omni Hotels Collegiate Tennis Rankings were released on Friday.
In singles sophomore Lady Raider Manon Kruse climbed to No. 29, four spaced up from her No. 33 ranking in the fall. She and doubles partner Stacy Varnell shot up the rankings in doubles to No. 14, with their fall ranking at No. 32.
On the men's side, Oliver Foreman moved up from No. 102 to No. 97 in singles. He and doubles partner Robert Gustafsson moved from ninth to fifth.
Middle Tennessee will travel to Starksville, Mississippi to take on No. 54 Mississippi State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
