Lady Raiders Fall to Virginia 8-0 at Capitol Classic
March 15, 2002 · MT Media RelationsThe Lady Raiders gave up one run in the first inning when designated player Kristen Dennis doubled home center fielder Kelly McCabe. Middle Tennessee could never get their bats warmed up in the chilly Sacramento weather, as the team could only put together two hits.
Virginia, benefiting from being in the area since Monday, lit up the field with eight hits. The Cavaliers scored four more runs in the fifth that was highlighted by a two RBI homerun by Ruby Rojas. Virginia scored three more runs in the top of the sixth.
Senior hurler Jennifer Martinez picked up the loss and falls to 9-4 on the season. Day two action at the Capitol Classic begins at 9 a.m. for the Lady Raiders when the team faces host Sacramento State. Middle Tennessee then will meet IUPUI at 1 p.m. and UNLV at 5 p.m.
