Venter Clinches 4-1 Win for Lady Raider over North Texas

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Sophomore Carien Venter clinched a Middle Tennessee (8-7, 1-0 SBC) win with a tiebreaker victory (7-5, 7-6 (4) over Benita Bittner to help the Lady Raiders defeat North Texas (8-7, 0-1 SBC) 4-1.

Matches at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles were stopped due to time constraints, because the match had to be moved to the Murfreesboro Indoor Racquet Club due to inclement weather. Opening up the match, No. 12 Manon Kruse and Stacy Varnell won their 25th match of the season with an 8-1 victory over Catherine Alain and Bettina Rettenmaier. The win ties the two for fifth place in the Lady Raider record books for doubles wins in a season, with teammate Michaela Gridling who had 25 in the 1999-2000 season.

Kruse, who is ranked No. 33, also won at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Sandhya Kanury. Verena Preiss won at No. 2 singles by defeating Alaine 7-5, 6-3.
