Season High 11 Runs Spark Lady Raiders at Buzz Classic
March 23, 2002 · MT Media RelationsThird baseman Danni DeCamino moved into a three-way tie for fourth place for homeruns in a season with her third homerun at the top of the first inning. She holds the spot with Shay Haskell (2000) and teammate Jennifer Martinez. DeCamino also moves into four-way tie for career homeruns (3) with Tamara Davis (1997-2000), Erica Buhl and Kristina Hieb.
Middle Tennessee exploded in the third inning, as the Lady Raiders scored eight runs on seven hits. Senior right fielder Laura Brockman's 18th homerun of the year capped off the inning, which was a two RBI long ball. She picked up two more RBI with a two out single in the top of the fourth to run the score to 11-0.
Junior pitcher Stayc Preator picked up the win and improves to 3-6. She threw five shutout innings, allowing one hit and striking out five.
Middle Tennessee opened the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Troy State. Designated player Erin Flater hit a homerun in the top of the fifth, for the only score of the game.
Senior hurler Martinez picked up the loss and falls to 11-5 on the mound. Middle Tennessee and Troy State were tied at three hits a piece for the game, and the Lady Raiders committed two errors.
Middle Tennessee will continue action on Saturday when the Lady Raiders play Belmont at 2 p.m. and Appalachian State at 4 p.m.
