Lady Raiders Split in Second Day of Buzz Classic

MARIETTA, Ga. - Middle Tennessee (16-15) split in the second day of the Buzz Classic, hosted by Georgia Tech, as the Lady Raiders defeated Appalachian State 2-1 and lost to Belmont 3-1.

Stayc Preator (4-6) pitched seven innings, after throwing five innings in the 3-1 loss to Belmont, and helped the Lady Raiders defeat Appalachian State 2-1. The Mountaineers got on the board in the first inning when right fielder Candace Shelton scored on a Middle Tennessee error.

The Lady Raiders answered in the bottom of the first when second baseman Lisa Sherman scored on an error by Appalachian State. Middle Tennessee took the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a RBI double by right fielder Laura Brockman.

In the earlier game, Middle Tennessee fell to Belmont 3-1. All of the Lady Bruins runs came in the second inning on three hits and one error.

Senior hurler Amanda Kendall started the game, but was pulled in the middle of the second inning. Preator, a junior, came in and finished the game. Kendall picks up the loss and falls to 1-4.

Middle Tennessee's only run of the game came in bottom of the third inning. Kip Phillips drew a walk and stole second, and then advanced to third on a fly ball by Lisa Sherman to left field. Phillips scored on a wild pitch by Beth Rambo.

Preator was named to the Buzz Classic All-Tournament team for her efforts. She went 2-0 in the tournament, had 17 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 17.2 innings pitched.

Middle Tennessee will be back in action on April 2 when the Lady Raiders travel to Birmingham, AL for a double header with UAB.
