APSU Blasts MT 19-0

March 24, 2002 · MT Media Relations
After finding a way to win late in the game on Saturday, Middle Tennessee found itself too far out of the lead on Sunday for any late heroics.

A disastrous bottom of the sixth inning saw the Governors plate 15 runs and put the game away as Austin Peay posted a 19-0 win, ending the Blue Raiders' winning streak after five straight wins.

The loss saw the Blue Raiders fall to 15-6 on the year while the Govs improved to 11-9.

Mike Weel, the Govs ace, proved why he is one of the best hurlers in the Ohio Valley Conference as he limited the potent MT offense to only two hits during his tenure to run his record to 4-2. Starter Jeremy Armstrong took the loss for the Blue Raiders to fall to 1-1 on the year.

Armstrong looked solid for the Blue Raiders through the first two innings, but a two-run homer from A.J. Ellis with two outs in the bottom of the third put the Govs in front to stay.

The Govs then punished the Blue Raiders in the bottom of the sixth. The Blue Raiders used five pitchers in the frame as the home team sent 18 men to the plate. The inning ensured that the Blue Raiders would not sweep the four-game set between the teams this season.

The Blue Raiders will try to right the ship on Tuesday at 7 PM with a home game against Troy State. The two teams will complete the series on Wednesday afternoon before the Blue Raiders head to New Orleans for their first Sun Belt series of the year.
