Blue gets the gold

Year after year, the Blue Raiders continue to earn awards and championships, gaining noteriety for feats of great strength, stamina and speed.

This past season, great athletes like Kortney Thurman, Noah Akwu and Festus Chemaoi wowed audiences at all levels of competition. Thurman qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships and won the long jump at the Penn Relays. Akwu placed sixth in the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Indoor Championships to earn All-American honors. A total of twelve Blue Raider athletes qualified for the NCAA Regional in 2010-11.

The men's track and field team looks to defend its Sun Belt Indoor title, led by Sun Belt Indoor Trackman of the Year, senior distance runner Justus David.

The men's cross country team charged ahead in 2011, taking team win at the Belmont Opener (5K), outscoring runner-up Tennessee 49 to 73. Festus Chemaoi claimed individual victories at the Belmont Opener (5K), UTC PowerAde Invitational (5K), and Vanderbilt Commodore Classic (8K).
