John T. Bragg

Inducted: 1993
Sports: Basketball, Baseball

Versatility was John Bragg's hallmark. At MT, Bragg played four years of basketball and baseball as well as a year of tennis and was a two-year letterman in golf during MT's first two seasons in that sport. A football manager during one of his years, Bragg also was editor of the campus newspaper, "Sidelines," and active in student government.

An avid Blue Raider fan, Bragg went on to a long career in state government as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. During his tenure, he influenced a wide range of legislation, including the state's open-meeting law. He sponsored the nation's first child-restraint law and supported the state's Better Schools program by advocating benchmarks for achievements and the addition of Chairs of Excellence in the state's colleges and universities.
