MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders are going to its fifth bowl game in the Rick Stockstill era and second in the last three years.
Middle Tennessee was officially extended an invitation on Saturday evening for Stockstill's Blue Raiders to represent Conference USA in the second annual Popeyes Bahamas Bowl on Dec. 24, 2015. It will mark the fifth bowl game of the FBS (I-A) era for Middle Tennessee and the ninth bowl game in school history.
The game against a still to be determined Mid-American Conference team will kick off at 11:00 a.m. (CT) from Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium. The game will air nationally on ESPN and ESPN Radio.
"We are honored to be representing Conference USA in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl," said Middle Tennessee Head Coach Rick Stockstill. "This is a unique bowl and a tremendous location so we can't wait to get down there and enjoy the experience.
"This team has earned the right to be in this bowl game and we have played a demanding schedule. We're a young team so being bowl eligible for the sixth time in seven years, and this group of seniors being eligible all four years, is a compliment to this group of players and a testament to the consistency of our program."
The Blue Raiders (7-5) will not know their opponent in the bowl game until probably Dec. 6 when all the final bowl game decisions are announced.
The Blue Raiders enter the postseason riding a four-game winning streak after going 6-2 in league play to finish tied for second in the East Division of C-USA. The Blue Raiders have finished second in the East all three years of C-USA play.
Fans need to purchase tickets through the Middle Tennessee ticket office by calling 1-888-YES-MTSU or logging onto GoBlueRaiders.com.
The Blue Raiders will return to practice on Friday (Dec. 4) and will leave for the bowl game on Dec. 20.
