MTSU's military science and athletic departments have special events planned around the 28th annual Salute to Armed Services/Veterans Day Saturday, Nov. 14.

There's something for everyone, including an Air Force flyover, parachutists bringing the game ball, a picnic and a patriotic halftime salute, during the Blue Raiders' 3:15 p.m. Sun Belt Conference football game against Louisiana-Lafayette in Floyd Stadium.

I discovered by reading through the course catalog that I am a "nontraditional" student (I'll be 50 my next birthday). When I enrolled in 1979 as an undergraduate, I had no cell phone, no computer and no Internet!

"Tennessee's Best" met Nigeria's best Oct. 13 as His Royal Majesty Emmanuel Adebayo, king of Emure Ekiti in Nigeria, brought a fact-finding group to MTSU for a day of inspections, conversations and collaborations for international education. During a weeklong U.S. visit with stops in several Tennessee cities, Adebayo and his associates met with Dr. Sidney A. McPhee and other university leaders for briefings on exchange opportunities for faculty, staff and students to help the kingdom expand its educational and economic options.

Middle Tennessee's 100,000-watt campus radio station is making a lineup change Monday, Oct. 19, introducing a fresh, new morning drive-time news program known as "The Takeaway." The program will air live on weekdays from 6-9 a.m.

Produced by WNYC Radio and Public Radio International in partnership with the BBC World Service, The New York Times and WGBH Radio, "The Takeaway" provides world, national and regional news coverage that is unprecedented in public media.

MTSU's Center for Health and Human Services was selected as a winner in the 16th annual National Health Information Awards. This program recognizes the nation's best consumer-health information programs and materials.

The CHHS has collaborated with several academic disciplines on the MTSU campus to provide expertise and guidance in the development of this curriculum, and with implementation in two preschools in Rutherford County. Nine MTSU dietetics students assisted with on-site nutrition education programming with the two daycare centers as part of a special initiative during National Nutrition month.

MIAMI - Former Blue Raider Brett Carroll recorded a pinch-hit RBI single on Wednesday night to lift the Marlins over the Phillies

Carroll had an 0-2 count with two outs when he made the game winning hit.

Former Raider in second WNBA season

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. -- Former Middle Tennessee women's basketball All-American Amber Holt and her WNBA Connecticut Sun teammates will play at the Atlanta Dream at 6 p.m. Central Friday in the team's final regular-season road game.

Middle Tennessee wide receiver Michael Cannon was lost for the season when he suffered a knee injury the first day of camp. The Memphis native will be missing the game against his hometown team for the second time in his career. Memphis Commercial-Appeal writer Phil Sweetland did a story on the Blue Raider who talks about getting into coaching.

The Middle Tennessee men's golf team was recognized as an Outstanding Academic Team for 2008-09 by the Golf Coaches Association of America,The National Advisory Board, and the National Office Staff.

The award, in its first year, recognizes schools whose entire squad earned an overall GPA for the academic year of 3.0 or higher.
