One of the toughest players on the team ...An intelligent player, who never takes a play off ... Has the ability to run all four receiver positions, including running back in the passing game ... A student of the game ... Makes up for lack of speed with precise route running and excellent hands ... Is also the team's holder on field goals ... David's father was a baseball pitcher for Alabama during his collegiate career ... Has played in 32 career games and earned 12 starts ... Represented Middle Tennessee at the 2002 Sun Belt Conference SAAC Meetings ... Missed the spring scrimmage due to a broken hand.

2001: Played in all 11 games, including five as a starter ... Was tied for second on the team in receiving with a career-best 37 catches for 358 yards and a touchdown ... Voted the team's Offensive MVP following the Louisiana-Monroe game and later shared the award again with Kendall Newson and Wes Counts after the New Mexico State win ... Had his first 100-yard receiving game when he hauled in a personal-best 10 passes for 104 yards against New Mexico State ... Collected seven catches for 83 yards against Louisiana-Monroe ... Reached the endzone for the first time in his career when he grabbed a 34-yard strike from Wes Counts against Louisiana-Lafayette ... Registered four catches in games against Vanderbilt and North Texas.

2000: Saw action in all 11 games and started six of those contests ... Enjoyed a career year with season highs in receptions (30) and receiving yards (252) ... Had a personal-best six catches for 33 yards at Maryland and added three receptions each versus Illinois and Florida ... His top receiving yardage game was at Mississippi State where he registered 44 yards on three receptions ... Pulled in a career-long 36-yard catch against the Bulldogs ... Snared at least one reception in all 11 games ... Recorded a team-high or tied for the team lead in knockdowns in three straight games (UAB, Mississippi State, Connecticut) ... Had a career-high 10 knockdowns against Connecticut, nine at Mississippi State, and seven versus UAB ... Was voted the team's skill player MVP following the Florida game.

1999: Played in all 11 games, including one as a starter (UCF) ... Finished the year with four catches for 38 yards ... Hauled in a career best three receptions for 27 yards at Arkansas ... Also had one catch against UCF.

1998: Took a redshirt year in 1998, but gained valuable experience working with the Blue Raider scout team.

High School: Played for coach Steve Brewer at Sevier County where he lettered for three years in football ... As a senior, Youell was voted all-state, all-conference, all-Northeast, and all-county as a wide receiver ... Was also all-conference as a defensive back and punt returner ... Was voted all-conference as a wide receiver, defensive back, and punt returner his junior year ... Averaged 25.9 yards a catch as a senior and hauled in a school-record 18 touchdowns ... Was a Who's Who member as a sophomore, junior and senior.
