Noteworthy: The favorite to become the starting defensive tackle when the season opens ... Reported to Middle Tennessee last fall at 304 pounds, but is now down to 272 and six percent less body fat ... After about two months in the program, Vanderpool really started to turn some heads ... Coaches were even tempted at times to put him in a game, but knew he would be even better in 2001 by watching and learning ... Possesses exceptional quickness for a big man ... Excels at rushing the passer ... Rated one of the top recruits in the Midstate coming out of high school ... Runs a 4.9 40 ... Chose Middle Tennessee over Mississippi and Marshall.

2000: Took a redshirt year, but gained valuable experience by being a member of the scout team.

High School: Was a Mr. Football Lineman of the Year finalist in 1999 ... Named All-State, All-Midstate and earned NashvilleSports Elite 11 recognition as a senior.
