2007: Announced on December 18 that he would be transferring in order to gain more playing time ... Completed 4 of 10 passes for 25 yards in the Blue-White game ... Played in his first and only collegiate game against FIU and missed on his only pass attempt.

2006: Took a redshirt year in order to gain a greater grasp of the offensive system and further develop his skills through the strength and conditioning program.

High School: Named to the 2005 Class of the Commonwealth by the Lexington Herald-Leader as one of the top seniors in the state of Kentucky ... Voted 2005 Preseason Top 50 player in Kentucky ... Tabbed all-city by the coaches ... Was a team captain his senior year at Henry Clay High School and earned the squad's top senior award ... Earned MVP honors at the Pike County Bowl ... As a senior, Simpson threw for 2,711 yards and 32 touchdowns and completed 68 percent of his passes ... He also added 827 yards on the ground and seven scores ... In the first round of the playoffs in 2005, Simpson torched Whitley County by throwing for 314 yards and five touchdowns ... In the regional championship win over Paul Dunbar, Simpson completed 10 of 16 passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns while adding 46 yards on the ground ... As a junior, he threw for 2,929 yards and 26 touchdowns en route to earning all-state honors ... Was on the Lexington Herald-Leader all-city team ... During the second round of the 2004 playoffs against Scott County, he set a school record by rushing for 180 yards and throwing for 200 yards ... Simpson ended his prep career with a GPA of 4.0 and was a member of the National Honor Society ... Earned first team academic all-state honors three years in a row ... Was also a DARE role model ... Played for his father, Sam Simpson.
