Players were at top of Davis' recruiting wish list
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Kermit Davis had two items atop his wish list during the recent recruiting period and the veteran Middle Tennessee men's basketball coach was able to achieve both when the NCAA late signing period began Wednesday. Davis announced the signing of guard Eric Allen and post Josh Jones to national letters of intent Wednesday, filling a pair of needs.

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee men's basketball coach Kermit Davis has been named the Sun Belt Coach of the Year by collegeinsider.com after leading the Blue Raiders to a school-record for conference wins and taking his team to league's tournament title game last month. The Blue Raiders won 11 of their last 14 and captured 14 wins against Sun Belt Conference teams - the most league wins ever for a Middle Tennessee team in a single-season.

Strength, conditioning helped key breakout sophomore season
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Middle Tennessee forward Desmond (Boogie) Yates has been awarded the All-American Strength and Conditioning Athlete of the Year Award by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Yates, who was nominated by Blue Raider men's basketball strength coach Jason Spray, was a first-team All-Sun Belt selection as a sophomore in 2007-08 and led the Blue Raiders in scoring with 16 points per game.

Middle Tennessee falls, 67-57, to rival WKU
MOBILE, Ala. - A memorable run in the second-half of the season saw the Middle Tennessee men's basketball team land in the Sun Belt Conference Championship game, but a strong second-half run by Western Kentucky denied the Blue Raiders a tournament title as the Hilltoppers captured a 67-57 win in front of 5,234 at the Mitchell Center here Tuesday night. Middle Tennessee won 10 of its last 13 to reach the title game for the second time under sixth-year Head Coach Kermit Davis but the Blue Raiders finally ran out of gas against an experienced Western Kentucky team.

NCAA automatic berth at stake when Middle Tennessee faces rival WKU in Tuesday's title game
MOBILE, Ala. - Blue Raider guards Kevin Kanaskie, Demetrius Green, and Nigel Johnson - all juniors - combined for 63 points, 16 rebounds, 11 assists and seven steals to lead Middle Tennessee to an 82-73 upset of No. 1 seed South Alabama in the semifinals of the SBC Championships Monday night. The Blue Raiders will face rival Western Kentucky in Tuesday's title game on ESPN2 at 8 p.m. The winner receives the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
